Job Description

As a Lennox Strategic Sourcing Manager (SSM), you will be responsible for managing the global spend within a specific HVAC component category (e.g. compressors) and leading the company’s global sourcing strategy for that category, driving year-over-year Material Cost Reduction (MCR) and working with multiple functional disciplines for the introduction of new products.

A successful SSM will:

  • generate and vet project ideas to build a strong pipeline of yearly savings projects to achieve 3-5% savings annually.

  • drive and manage cost reduction projects across one or more of Lennox’s business units.

  • work with Sales, Product Marketing and Engineering in one or more Lennox business segments to develop strategies that drive customer Configure to Order requirements to utilize Lennox suppliers.

There will be significant involvement with driving strategy in the company’s European business segment and managing component suppliers with the company’s Asian sourcing team. The ability to travel domestically and overseas will be required.


  • Analyze and prioritize MCR projects to achieve 3-5% cost reduction per year.

  • Manage projects to implement according to timeline.

  • Manage the company’s supply portfolio ensuring transparency of spending.

  • Generate and implement efficient sourcing and supply chain strategies.

  • Analyze costs of procurement, and suggest methods to decrease expenditure.

  • Implement successful negotiation strategies and secure profitable deals.

  • Cooperate with stakeholders to guarantee agreement on terms and processes.

  • Research, and anticipate shifts in the negotiating leverage of suppliers.

  • Perform cost and scenario analysis, and benchmarking.

  • Estimate risks, and apply risk minimizing techniques.

  • Seek out and partner with trustworthy vendors and suppliers.


  • 10 years of experience in sales engineering and sourcing direct material is required.

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

  • A master's degree or equivalent is preferred

  • Experience in the HVAC industry and/or small machine or mechanical devices is needed.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with the mechanical engineering community to drive compressor and HVAC system specifications

  • An aptitude for product technology along with an understanding of design, reliability and manufacturing processes

  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate and sustain networking relationships.

  • Requires expert abilities in building mid to top level executive relationships internally and with Suppliers.

  • Broad knowledge of principles and methods for showing, promoting, and selling products or services. This includes marketing strategy and tactics, product demonstration, sales techniques, and sales control systems

  • Broad knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service.(internally and externally) This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction

  • Strong project management and leadership skills.

  • Comfortable with collecting, analyzing, and interpreting financial data.

  • Ability to work with various Lennox business functions and be effective at, listening, persuading, negotiating and managing time.(ex: marketing, engineering, program management, demand planning, purchasing, Lennox India Technology Center, Lennox Asia Sourcing and Engineering Center, and Lennox business unit executives).
